My family – daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren aged 25, 21 &17 – and I have just returned from our second visit to this lovely hotel in the far south of Fuerteventura. Last year we went at Christmas, this year at New Year and whilst I enjoyed Christmas more I must congratulate the hotel for all their efforts to create an international celebration on both occasions. The food here is just wonderful and there were no short cuts on any of the meals – we were all inclusive and had the problem of trying to be moderate with such an array of food on offer! The staff were very friendly and helpful and worked incredibly hard to keep up their very high standards. Little children seemed to be having a great time with some energetic play leaders who then doubled up as sport and entertainment leaders at other times. The whole hotel is spotless and operates very efficiently. Having stayed at other parts of the island over the Christmas period, we have found this most southerly town to be much warmer than other more popular parts – this year it was especially warm!
Whilst I’d have no hesitation in recommending this hotel there are a couple of points to consider: the disco is not large and became very hot on New Years Eve – I decided to hold the fort outside and let the others pop in and out! The hotel is sited at the top of a steep hill – good for those wanting exercise (2 of the 3 grandchildren decided to take a morning jog – but it didn’t last long!) or, if like us, you hire a car otherwise the hill is quite strenuous for the less able. It is away from the main shopping area and about an hour’s drive from the airport; the local beach is a large open (often windy) one with a lighthouse and area of special scientific interest; there are other beaches not far away (Butihondo, Mal Nombre) with sheltered areas and are also nudist beaches. Its is a long way from popular areas such as El Cotillo and Correlejo but I’d recommend a visit to Ajuy on the west coast to its caves and wonderful monstrous waves and a trip to Cofete would be an enjoyable extra. I’ll look forward to another visit again next year – Happy 2016!
