“Barbaracca restaurant, Godalming”:http://www.barbaracca.com/
For years, La Luna was an excellent restaurant in Godalming for a special occasion. It wasn’t cheap, but it was authentic Italian food – with a real Sicilian twist – served up by Daniele and his lively team.
So it was disappointing to hear that the chef had left, that the restaurant was closed for “rebranding”….and that it was heading down market to appeal to a wider audience.
Our fears were unfounded. Barbaracca has appeared in its place, like a phoenix from the ashes, after an eruption from Etna.
Our first visit there last weekend was a joy. Daniele and the same passionate front of house team greet with you in that typically ebullient Italian manner.
The food is rustically excellent, with plenty of choice between cicchetti, small tapas-style dishes, including Sicilian specialities arancini and panelle; pasta bowls, either individually or to share; main dishes of fish, meat or vegetarian options; healthy salads; and some interesting specials on the fun blackboard.
So you can pop in at any time of day now, instead of just for a wedding anniversary or Big Birthday. A nice informal lunch; early evening antipasti with a glass of prosecco; a fun evening meal with friends and a couple of bottles of vino rosso.
Sometimes reincarnations do work. Viva l’Italia!
