I was pleasantly surprised at how attractive the city of Preston was. We took a short walk from the railway station, through the Georgian streets to Avenham Park. The park is Grade 11 listed and we went to enjoy the celebrations in honour of the city’s 20-year status. In the heart of the city, the park is connected by beautiful scenic paths. There is a landscaped Japanese Rock garden and a natural amphitheatre. The multicultural event called Mela featured music and dance. It is a vibrant celebration of South Asian arts, culture, tradition and heritage. There were stalls and workshops celebrating the diversity of the city. the High Sheriff of Lancashire and other civic dignitaries were there to join in.
We did some shopping in Fishergate before stopping at Cedarwood Coffee in Winckley Street. This is a pleasant cafe in a small traffic free side street.
We will look out for future events in Preston and visit the city again one day.
