Feel a certain hesitancy when checking into an Eco Hotel or B&B? All that porridge and vegetarian sausages for breakfast? Well, not here. This is truly an exceptional place. Doesn't look that from the outside in the tiny hamlet of Shieldaig in the Scottish Highlands, a 2 hour drive west from Inverness. And Ann and Thomas make their guests in their 3 en suite rooms feel most welcome, and strive to join them into the local community, and to encourage participation in all things local and eco friendly.

Rooms are bright modern and beautifully furnished and decorated. Double glazed windows keep out the cold as does the wood burning stove in the very comfortable guests' lounge with fine views over the loch and out to sea. Breakfasts are a treat skillfully prepared by Thomas, and a full breakfast should keep you going for the day. Food is locally sourced and great care is taken to ensure quality. Some is home grown.

All in all the experience left us with things to contemplate in our daily lives when back in London.Any little contribution to preserving the environment is welcome. Step by step. Easy enough to mock or criticise, but here Ann and Thomas have shown what can be done.

Only one thing…..a shower pump perhaps??

But many congratulations on establishing a wonderful retreat and place of relaxation.
