Augrabies Falls national park has much more to offer the visitor than just the spectacular Orange River gorge and the magnificent falls. A walk around the area close to the falls and along the gorge is certainly not to be missed but explore a little further into the park and there is much to see for those interested in all aspects of wildlife and geology.
Travelling on one of the trails, coming over a ridge a small herd of Mountain Zebra galloped across the road a hundred metres in front of us, then they all lined up to look at us to see if we were any threat.
A few of the Quiver trees were in full flower, golden yellow flowers, so we stopped to take a photo of one that had been taken over by a huge Sociable Weavers nest.
Our chalets were well kitted out and comfortable, with views toward the gorge, whilst the restaurant was excellent and a Rafters breakfast is a must after an early morning walk.
We have found that all the reserves run by San Parks are excellent quality accommodation and value. We hope to return before too long.
