When my husband’s cousin from Perth, Western Australia sent an email saying that he and his partner were going to visit the Greek Islands for a month and did we want to meet up with them, we jumped at the chance. Not only do we rarely see them, but we had not had a holiday for a long time.
We decided on Athens as a suitable meeting place, as both them and we were flying to that airport. There was so much to see – not least, of course, was the Acropolis! We spent a morning there and it was magnificent and really awakened an interest in ancient history for both my husband and myself.
We also visited the Agora and the Benaki museums and went on an open topped bus tour, and of course saw the changing of the guard. The weather was lovely throughout our stay which was in early May.
We found many good shops and restaurants. Our cousins are vegetarians and had no problems whatsoever in finding suitable meals. We even quite liked Retsina wine, which was quite a revelation as we had only heard bad reports about it.
I now have a yearning to see more of Greece, and I do hope that this will be possible.
