We recently had to fly from East Midlands Airport – positively the worst one to get to from West Wales by public transport. Comparing train prices to get from Aberystwyth to the airport station (you still need to get to departures from there) it turned out to be twice as much as the train to Derby rail station then pre-book return taxi service.

This worked out well on our way there with the taxi driver waiting outside the train station, but our very late return flight saw not due to land until 12.15am. It was then delayed for over an hour so 1.15am by the time our taxi could collect us and 1.45am by the time we reached the hotel.

We cannot praise the hotel enough. A button to press for the Night Manager who was there immediately, expecting our late arrival and with everything ready for our room. Even better, the bar was open if we wanted a drink with just 2 other guests there. It was a really friendly, cosy atmosphere which made up for a very long day.

A lovely old winding staircase leading to clean and tidy room, very quiet. The Manager also made a note for cleaning staff not to disturb us in the morning so that we could have a lie-in. It is so convenient, just over the road from the front entrance to Derby train station, and we would certainly stay there again.
