We called into Ascott en route to visiting Chatsworth House. As we are National Trust members we try and get in a visit anytime we are travelling somewhere.
Well, all I can say is that our expectations were well and truly exceeded!
The gardens were magnificent and I lost count of the number of butterflies and bees I witnessed feeding off the variety of flowers! (see photos)
There was an area devoted to topiary and one area which had the words “Love” spelt out which was very unusual. The views were superb too.
Unfortunately we didn’t have time to tour the Jacobean House as we spent so long in the beautiful gardens as the weather was perfect, hot and sunny with a clear blue sky! Therefore this is one NT property that we intend to return to later in the year and next summer too.
Sadly I didn't notice if there were any refreshments on offer. Toilets were in the car parking area.
The nearest town is Leighton Buzzard. Visit www.nationaltrust.co.uk/ascott for more info.
Please note I have rated "value for money" as very good but feel this applies mainly if you are a National Trust member!
