Reasons for trip

Had booked an overnight stay at the Stonefield Castle Hotel and was looking for another one night stay on the way back down home to Glasgow. The Arrochar Hotel looked good so I booked it. Must add we did not stay overnight but am giving my opinion of the hotel before we left. The hotel is in a nice location with a view of the loch. On entering the building it was immediately obvious the hotel needed quite a bit of money spending on it. The room we were allocated had traces of damp on the wall and was very tired looking. There was a chemical smell pervading the rooms (we were shown two rooms) and everywhere in the hotel in general. A smell of maybe chlorine but the hotel has no pool. The hotel in general is dated and lacks atmosphere. The smell triggered my asthma so we booked back out but only after phoning the company we had booked through to get a refund from the hotel. Would not recommend to anyone. This hotel’s Owners I can only assume must think the location is sufficient to ‘sell’ the hotel. It is embarrassing to think foreign tourists will choose this hotel from it’s photograph and location – it is not representative of the very good hotels in Scotland we regularly visit.
