Reasons for trip

We finally got to travel to London at the weekend, saw the show “Anything Goes”, and had a brilliant time.

There is something very decadent about watching a lavish stage show on a Sunday afternoon in London. Two seats in Upper Circle £55 each – I don’t know about other seating areas in this theatre, but up here it is a bit of a squeeze for people to pass along the row to their seat. Is it me, or is it always the ones who are sitting in the centre of a row that come in last?

The show was as glorious as the reviews said it was and it was a full house at this matinee. Robert Lindsay is not a natural dancer, or singer for that matter, but plays an inept gangster superbly. It was good to see Gary Wilmot as the millionaire, especially when his specs went missing, and Felicity Kendal who was desperately seeking a rich husband for her and her daughter. The exceptional star is Sutton Foster as Reno – what a voice! In fact, all the cast had magnificent voices, despite the dodgy American accents, and the tap-dancing routines were electric. Look out for Lord Evelyn and the gypsy influence – not to be missed.

It is a feel-good show where you can spot who had been in the audience as they hummed the songs on the Underground on their way home! I was a bit wary as there have been several posts on Facebook about performances cancelled at the very last minute, and we would not be able to book another 2-night stay in London for just one show. However, as a visitor, this was a good time to be returning to London, much quieter than normal of course, with plenty of room on the roads and the public transport. If it goes on tour, I would definitely go to see it again
