Reasons for trip

In a small town called Millbank, about an hour and a half northeast of London, Ontario, there is a locally famous restaurant and bakery called “Anna Mae’s”:http://www.annamaes.ca/. Over the years I’ve been a few times and it consistently delivers juicy broasted chicken and other Mennonite meals and baking, especially their tasty pies, some of which are gluten free. This is a family business, over 20 years at its current location, and the food is nothing fancy – just good homemade food prepared on site. A few years ago it was extended as the queues to get a table were always long. But that does not stop people from driving into town from miles away for a meal and to stock up on baking to take home. You can enter your name when you arrive and browse in the gift shop while you wait or park yourself on a pew in the expanded waiting area.

I’ve often been in a party of three or four but my most recent visit was just with my aunt. We hardly had to wait as it was after the lunchtime rush. We both had the small serving of broasted chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans with a fresh baked dinner bun.

One of the dining rooms has a horse buggy that has been converted into a dining table for four. If you want the privilege of eating at this particular table you must call (519-595-4407) and book it. Note: reservations are only taken for parties of 10 or over. The menu varies by week as outlined on the website but the broasted chicken is always on the menu and it’s what we always have. There’s a reason this eatery made it onto the Food Network’s show “You Gotta Eat Here” in 2015!

Bring cash or debit cards – no credit cards are accepted. Not open on Sundays or holidays. There is plenty of parking and it is fully accessible.
