We went to stay in the Lecrin Valley at Talara for 3 months in the spring. The valley is about 30km south of Granada and the same distance north of the coast. Beautifully situated, it is close to the dual carriageway and a wonderful place for touring. We arrived in February, still a bit cold and could see the snow on the Sierra Nevadas and Alpuharras nearby. But the oranges were nearly ready for harvest, and by March, the harvest was in full swing. Within weeks, the fragrance of new orange blossom filled the valley. This place is green due the the leats that water the valley with snow melt from the Sierra Nevadas. Talara is a small town, but is a short bus ride from Durcal, the nearest town. If you don’t have your own transport, the bus service is good and cheap. You can ride to Granada and see the town and the Alhambra for just a few euros. This was such a wonderful experience and we made many new retired friends.
