I highly recommend a day trip to Amsterdam. As a family even though my children are now all adults we still like to visit places of interest as a family. We set off from Southend Airport flying with easyJet directly to Amsterdam at 7.30am. The flight was smooth and only 30 minutes long. Upon arrival in Amsterdam we took the train to Amsterdam central station. Buying the tickets was very easy just 9 euros return which was excellent. The airport leads straight into the train station so you can’t get lost.
Arriving at Amsterdam central station was only 17 minute journey and took us straight into the shopping area and canals. We decided to take a boat ride which was 5 minute walk from station. We cruised all along the canals taking in all the sites, it was wonderful. The sun was out shining brightly and everybody seamed to be genuinely happy and enjoying the beautiful scenery in Amsterdam. After our boat trip we took a long stroll along the canals stopping at a bar along the canal front for a drink. It was lovely watching all the boats go pass waving at the people on the boats.
We then walked around the shops which were a good variety. We bought some gifts then found ourselves a restaurant where you could eat as much as you could for 12 euros. On the plate was two racks of ribs served with chips and salad. I only got through one rack however my husband managed three racks.
We then took a stroll down to the Amsterdam sign which was packed with tourists having their photos taken. After taking in some more sites we hopped on a tram to the train station and made our way back to the airport. The airport is huge with lots of shops and places to eat and drink. Although it was a long day we had such a good time and would love to go back and stay a few days next time.
