I visited Alnwick castle in April with my sister as we were on a short break holiday to Northumberland, which in any case has so much to offer, along with stunning beach walks and many other castles. Already the day that we chose to visit Alnwick castle was perfect, fresh but plenty of sunshine. We brought tickets for the castle, well known for being used in the "Harry Potter" films, and gardens, which I thought was a fair amount of money to pay, but we ended up spending the whole day there and it was wonderful. At first we visited the castle sitting in it's beautiful grounds, and on entering we were invited to go down to the dungeons where some actors put on a short show for a dozen of us, it was supposed to be scary but everyone came out laughing. We proceeded our tour of the castle which was amazing and very well organised, with plenty of guides to give out any information. After our visit we had a coffee in the garden centre and continued on our tour of the gardens with it's beautiful waterfall, fountains and water features, plus a guided tour of the poisoness plant garden which was also very entertaining and funny. After the gardens we went on to the tree house, where there is a restauant and snack bar, and tree walk for those who don't mind having a bit of a shakey walk. You can take your own sandwiches or eat in one of the establishments, plenty of seats to sit on, very good staff, easy parking, but also easy to reach with out a car, stunning gardens. So on the whole money very well spent and an excellent day out for all ages. I can highly recommend Alnwick castle for any one who is thinking of visiting, be prepared to be there all day long as it takes that much to see everything!
