Reasons for trip

In October we hired a Hoseasons Lodge in Northumberland. This was to celebrate 30 years of marriage and visit Alnwick Poison Garden. This has been on my bucket list for a few years. We arrived early and had coffee in the rickety Charlie Bucket style house. Then went to the garden where we obtained a free timed ticket for the poison garden.
While we waited for 0930 start we chatted with our guide, you have to be escorted through. We spent 25 minutes learning about the plants to discover pretty much all of them were growing in our own garden. All but cannabis and Spice, both plants for which the garden had a license to grow, I bought a book on the garden and some of its plants much to the concern of my dear husband. We then spent the rest of the day wandering the rest of the gardens and castle including the museums. There is so much to see here that we returned for a second day. If you validate your ticket at the visitor centre on your first visit you can get unlimited access to the castle for twelve months.well worth the visit. Buy your tickets online as they are cheaper and arrive early to avoid coaches.
