Reasons for trip

Personal / family celebration

I travelled to Mexico in March 2016 for a two week all inclusive holiday at the Allegro hotel. The hotel has a beautiful position on an amazing beach on the Caribbean Sea and I was really excited about our stay. Although we had a good holiday I felt there were several disappointments that I wouldn’t want anyone else experiencing without forewarning. The grounds at the hotel were amazing and beautifully maintained, there are several animals (unsure of their name but they are a bit like giant guinea pigs and very friendly) and beautiful birds around the grounds. Out room was on the ground floor and was perfectly adequate with en suite shower room but it could definitely do with updating although this is part of their plans. And then there was the bed!! Instead of the usual divan type bed they had actually extended some of the wall to make a bed sized slab of concrete and whacked a mattress on top. I have never seen anything like it. I have a back problem and it was excruciating. Literally like sleeping on the floor! My husband contacted the staff and after about ten discussions they added another mattress to the slab. This made it partially better. The food at the hotel was ok, a bit repetitive. We booked into the restaurant one night but it seemed to be the same food …on a smaller scale served by a waiter. There are staff waiting to try and sell you timeshares and they harass you daily on your way in and out of the restaurant. In the end I stopped being polite and just ignored them. The beach was heaven and the water beautiful. No sellers which was fab. Awesome pelicans dive in the water they are amazing to watch. Playa Del Carmen is lovely just make sure that you have an actual bed when you book!
