We flew from Birmingham via Doha to Nairobi (2x approximate 6-hour flights) overnight to arrive early morning – very tiring. We then had an hour’s drive to the Tribe Hotel which was very nice & you have to pay for your own evening meal. Early start to be breakfasted & out of the hotel for 7am. Then long 5-hour drive to Samburu reserve. Gamewatchers were the company which actually took us on safari. There was a lot of driving either around the reserves or travelling between them, so be aware, plus early starts to get the maximum out of the days, so it is a full on experience.
The food ad& accommodation was reasonable. The highlight was Leonard our driver/ guide, who was amazing, spotting the animals, well before any of us and very knowledgeable ,able to name all the animals & birds & information about them. He carefully manoeuvred our Landcruiser which had an opening roof ,to obtain the best shots for our cameras and waiting whilst everyone had taken all the shots they wanted. Leonard was very obliging and always with a smile on his face, finding all the big cats, especially the cheetahs & leopards, along with rhinos, elephants, giraffes, zebras, water buffalo, wildebeest, ostrich, the list just goes on & on.
So for our first safari, which was full on & tiring, but an absolutely wonderful experience with memories which will remain with us for ever. Thanks Leonard.
