So, let’s get the “eventful” bit out of the way. There was a questionable choice of float as 4 youngsters replicated the Cool Runnings film of the Jamaican bob-sleigh team – a great idea in principle, but they did choose to “black” their faces which upset a prospective election candidate from the region. We even got a mention in The Sun, although the Jamaican team said they were happy that no malice was intended.
Apart from this, it was one of the best Carnivals we have seen here with lots more floats and the traditional Carnival Queen looking very pretty. Some strange costumes – see the photographs – as always, and a lot of local children dressed as characters from the Flintstones and the Trolls. It is a charitable event, as usual, and with so many extra visitors this year than our usual Bank Holiday, it was all very good-natured.
We may be a small town. but there is always something going on to involve people. Pink was the colour for this year, so we will have to wait and see what next year’s theme is.
