Culture/Sightseeing

A Night at the Opera doesn’t begin to describe the experience of being in the audience at Verona’s Arena to see and hear a fabulous production of Aida, the quintessential opera to hear in Verona. I’d been before, but in the 1980’s. This time it was even better as before we’d been touring, were tired, doing far too much and …. well, you know how it is. Fast forward to 2023 when I know better how to travel and prepare for special events and we relaxed during the day so that we could enjoy the late evening performance (9.30 – 1.30 am). Not only was the stage setting different from anything we’d seen before but the whole experience was magical, from the silence of 30,000 people during the performance on a balmy night to the performances of the brilliant cast. Buying tickets for a comfortable seat as well, also made for a more enjoyable experience than my initial one in the 80’s. We plan to return next year, it was easy to book seats online and flying to Verona was a doddle. Opera fans can see something of what we saw on various clips on You Tube (make sure you get the 2023 Aida).
