As you can see from previous reviews, we regularly stay at IBIS Budget or IBIS hotels at Birmingham Airport as they are ideally located across the street from Departures at the airport.
We have had to visit St Joseph’s Hospital in Malpas, Newport several times this year, usually staying at Mercure Hotel in the town next to the bus station. This visit, it was very expensive at all hotels on the night of 4-5th November, so we went for the Ibis Budget on the M4 junction outside the town. We have to rely on public transport so took a taxi for the short distance from the hospital to the hotel, meaning we could catch the bus into town the next morning from just around the corner. Very easy.
During the evening, no food is served in the hotel but they directed us to a local pub, walking through the underpass (under the motorway) and along a residential street. A very friendly pub, especially the staff and local customers, with good quality food freshly prepared, so a welcome little break after my husband’s cataract operation.
While IBIS Budget rooms are basic, they are clean and we always find the beds comfy. The shower cubicle works fine, but the toilet is very ‘bijou’ – a cupboard really – so if you are a plus size, it may be more difficult to use. The standard IBIS rooms are bigger, with a combined toilet/shower cubicle that is easier to access, so a little more expensive. For us. It is usually a very short night in transit so we do not mind the budget version. And as in this hotel in Newport, we always find the staff very helpful and friendly.
