We have travelled happily, for many years, with EasyJet. Our winter breaks, to somewhere warm, have been enjoyable. We have always travelled with hand baggage only, their size allowance was quite sufficient. We like the security of having our luggage with us, but, more importantly, the time it saves on arrival and return to the uk, where we do not have to wait around for the baggage carousels. The fact that you will now be allowed only a bag which will fit under the seat in front and the previous size of hand luggage must be placed in the hold for £7. The cost is irrelevant, it means the inconvenience of baggage carousels and for this reason we will be flying with BA.

This change is clearly going to divide opinions. I'm actually in favour of it, having suffered delay and frustration caused by those seeking to avoid the charge for luggage stowed in the hold. I have been dismayed over the years to note the increasing size of so-called hand luggage and am firmly of the view that anything needing wheels should not be so classified. Personally, I would rather see all luggage charged for what it is rather than where it is stowed. If I have understood them correctly, the new arrangements will mean that travellers with overhead luggage will be mostly be seated in the front half of the plane, meaning speedier boarding and alighting via the rear door. My only regret is that I no longer fly with Easyjet since it pulled all the routes that I use.

My concern about having to put any sort of baggage under the seat in front is the shortage of legroom you already get in those seats. I fear DVT/Thrombosis and all sorts of problems arising from this situation.
I hope other airlines do not follow suit because of this and that Easy Jet have a rethink.

We can still take a large cabin bag to put in overhead locker. The difference now is we'll have to pay for a more expensive seat to do so.

    Below is what easyJet announced:

If you want to take a large cabin bag (max 56 x 45 x 25 cm including wheels and handles) on board, you’ll need to purchase an Up front or Extra legroom seat. Your bag must be able to fit in the overhead locker.

You’ll be able to purchase these seats (subject to availability) for your easyJet holiday when you check-in for your flight, which is normally available around 30 days before departure.
