Day 2
Saturday 18 May 2024

Cairo

This morning visit the Egyptian Museum, home to one of the finest collections of Egyptian antiquities in the world. Among the museum’s treasures are those discovered by Howard Carter in 1922 from the tomb of Tutankhamun. This includes his gold mask, the solid gold sarcophagus that held his mummy, and his beautiful throne. Tonight, we’ll enjoy a welcome dinner buffet with a glass of wine to toast our trip to Egypt.

Day 3
Sunday 19 May 2024

Fly to Luxor & embark

Fly to Luxor this morning to begin our four-night Nile cruise aboard the Sanctuary Sun Boat IV. With just forty rooms on board, it feels like you’re in an intimate floating palace, creating an environment a world away from traditional river cruises.

After lunch on board, visit the West Bank of Luxor to explore the Valley of the Kings. We’ll also have the chance to visit at least one tomb in the Valley of the Queens and visit the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut. On the way back to the river Nile, pass by the famed Colossi of Memnon, known in Ancient Greek times for their haunting voices at dawn. This evening we’ll gather for a welcome reception, complete with Egyptian wine and beer with a selection of freshly-prepared canapés, followed by a gourmet dinner.

Please note: During the cruise our Silver Travel Advisor group will be joining fellow passengers onboard and enjoying mixed excursions and activities.

Day 4
Monday 20 May 2024

Luxor to Esna

After breakfast on board, we’ll begin our day with a visit to the Temple of Karnak. Lunch is served in the lounge whilst we sail to Esna, then after lunch, our Egyptologist guides us round the Greco-Roman Temple of Khnum at Esna. The beautifully preserved Great Hypostle Hall was built during the reign of the Roman Emperor Claudius; it was excavated from the silt that had accumulated through centuries of annual Nile floods and is about nine meters lower than present-day street level. Afternoon tea is served as we cruise to Edfu and, later, enjoy a gourmet dinner.

Day 5
Tuesday 21 May 2024

Edfu to Aswan

This morning, explore the Temple of Edfu, before we cruise to Kom Ombo where we’ll visit the Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to the crocodile-god Sobek. The temple stands at a bend in the Nile where in ancient times sacred crocodiles basked in the sun on the riverbank. Later, you have the chance to take part in an Egyptian cooking lesson as we sail to Aswan. Tonight’s dinner on board is an Egyptian Night costume party for all guests, with a chance to dress up in traditional Egyptian galabeyya. Dinner is a lavish buffet of Egyptian specialities.

Day 6
Wednesday 22 May 2024

Aswan

This morning is free for you to enjoy as you please. Perhaps head to the upper sun deck and take a dip in the river-view pool, or enjoy the facilities onboard. After lunch, visit the majestic Philae Temple on the Island of Agilika. Next proceed to the Granite Quarries, where you see the Unfinished Obelisk, located in the northern region of the stone quarries. Next take a ride on a felucca (a typical Egyptian sail boat) around Elephantine Island, Lord Kitchener’s Botanical Gardens and the Agha Khan Mausoleum. This evening we’ll come together for a farewell dinner with gourmet cuisine and traditional shows.

Day 7
Thursday 23 May 2024

Aswan to Cairo

This morning, transfer to Aswan Airport for a flight to Cairo. On arrival, we’ll proceed directly to The Great Pyramid of Giza, the last standing of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, as well as the oldest – built over 4,500 years ago as a giant tomb for pharaoh Khufu. Nearby sits the enigmatic Sphinx, with its lion body and human face, which may have been based on King Khafre and positioned to guard the king’s enormous funerary monument. The pyramids are truly monumental in scale and a breathtaking sight to see.

This evening enjoy a final night stay at the five-star Kempinski Nile City Hotel.
