Reading is a fantastic way to keep your brain active and to escape the stresses of everyday life. Our partner and specialists in holiday homes, Original Cottages, appreciates that not everyone enjoys easy access to books so to help local communities find their perfect book they’ve partnered with The Reading Agency, a national charity helping people to tackle life’s big challenges through the proven power of reading to deliver a world where everyone is reading their way to a better life. Original Cottages have already collected and bought thousands of new and pre-loved books ready to distribute. Their summer reading activities also include:
Hidden Book Trail
Since the end of July, the Original Cottages team and their four-legged helpers have been hiding books across some of their most popular holiday destinations: North Kent, the Pembrokeshire Coast, Bakewell, Windermere and along the South West Coastal Path. Keep your eyes peeled on their Instagram page for clues about where we’ll be hiding books next!
Free Books for All
They’ve also set up book crates outside some of their local offices so feel free to come to your nearest office and grab a book for yourself: Abersoch, Aldeburgh, Braunton, Dartmouth, Fowey, Mumbles, Reepham, Seahouses, Southwold, St Ives, Weymouth, Whitby, Windermere.
Literary Festivals
Original Cottages have also sponsored a number of Literary Festivals this summer. They kindly covered the cost of tickets for people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend the Theakston Old Peculiar Crime Writing festival in Harrogate at the end of July.
They also sponsored the Brighton Festival launch event at the end of June and will be sponsoring the Happy Beans and Funny Food events at Llangwm Literature Festival in mid-August, where their sponsorship covers the cost of food, allowing it to be free for children.
