The 2021 Silver Travel Industry Report

Coronavirus Survey Findings May 2020

Our latest Silver Travel Industry Report draws on four research dips made in May, July and November 2020, plus a snap survey in association with the Advantage Travel Partnership in January 2021. Travelzoo also contributed from their December 2020 survey. We published short reports in May 2020 and in August 2020.

The main Silver Travel Industry Report aims to provide a snapshot of how older people have responded over the course of pandemic as it impacted on their travel plans and travel horizons, and to show how older travellers’ outlooks have altered going forwards. Over 2,750 silver travellers completed the four surveys – many thanks to everyone who participated.

Silver Travel Industry Report

We publish an annual Silver Travel Industry report which brings together a wide range of research and statistics about the silver market. Each Autumn we conduct an in-depth survey amongst our members in order to find out exactly what travellers over 50 want from the industry for the future, how they take holidays and where they wish to travel. The results of this survey speak as the collective voice of Silver Travellers and are presented at a travel industry Breakfast Briefing early each year.

What the travel industry says

“Many thanks for the EXCELLENT presentation by Silver Travel Advisor. I know these things take hours and hours of planning – but the result was a world-class presentation, with a wide range of elements, balanced with the creative flair and panache that we expect from the Silver Travel Advisor Team. As ever, the stats made very interesting reading.”
Ted Wake, Managing Director, Kirker Holidays

“This annual report is an amazing analysis of the over 50s travel market and, as a company clearly focused on this demographic, is extremely useful. It helps us to understand better the underlying trends in order to sharpen our marketing and customer service.”
Mike Hall, former Director of Marketing, Cruise & Maritime Voyages

“What a superb piece of research into this ever-increasing, dynamically changing, group of silver life-stylers. Every travel marketer should make this a priority read. I, for one, will be exploring particular issues and opportunities that come out of the report for our various products, programmes and brands.”
Peter Stratton, former Managing Director, Non-Cruise Division, Cruise & Maritime Travel Group

“It is so good to read such an excellent report that is so informative and opens up many new thoughts. Those involved should be congratulated. What the report does confirm most strongly is that there are many different marketing segment opportunities not just one single category label of ‘old’.”

Paul Foster, Paul Foster PR

“I have your report like a bible on my desk as it has so much juicy information in it.”
Amy Skelding, Finn Partners
