UK photo competition winners

Photography competition

It’s time to announce the winners of the photo competition, and you’ll find the winning entries on page 61 of our latest magazine, The Silver Traveller.

We asked you to enter a photo taken in the UK in two categories, either People or Places. And we had several hundred entries, with really interesting images of children, families, groups of friends and walkers, to name but a few in the People category.

Our entries for the Places category quite literally covered all corners of the 4 countries from forests and beaches, to mountain ranges and lakes with urban scenes too.

Our judges chewed their pencils and scratched their heads, the competition was fierce.

The winners are

Stephen Tinkler with Malham Lone Tree in the Places category

Joan Smith with A boy and his dog in the People category.

Congratulations!

The judges said of Stephen’s photo, ‘terrifically atmospheric with the fissures (called grykes) and the bare tree with a low light.’

And of Joan’s, ‘a touch of humour in the quintessential British rain, with a pristine white dog’.

Highly commended are

Steph Downing for Wakeham Forest, North Yorkshire and Elizabeth Waeland for A sunny day at Symonds Yat in the Wye Valley

Many thanks to our judges, Cathy Bartrop, Debbie Marshall, Roger Bray, Steve Dunlop and Stuart Forster, who had a challenging, yet rewarding task with so many talented photographers amongst our members. We’re delighted so many of you entered.
