Our winner and their companion will be staying in a 4-star hotel, on a bed & breakfast basis, in the Larnaca region, ideal for the coast and many attractions. For those who like to be active, this time of year is ideal for walking and cycling, as the high heat of mid-summer has abated, with daytime temperatures about 25°C. Head for the Troodos Mountains for a glimpse of a traditional way of life, Byzantine monasteries and magnificent scenery. And if golf is your game, the greens are likely to be quieter too. The sea is still a very comfortable 26°C, so lovely for swimming and snorkelling in the clear, calm waters.
If you fancy a cultural exploration, this island is filled with archaeological sites and antiquities, always interesting to visit. Even before the Greeks and Romans arrived, leaving behind their temples, villas and theatres, there were Neolithic inhabitants. Whilst Aphrodite might be the most well-known name associated with Cyprus, Tracy Emin, Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) and George Michael all have connections here.
