Discover Europe for couples and friends with Canvas Holidays

Canvas Holidays Do you have fond memories of your Canvas Holidays when the children were small?  Endless days on the beach.  Barbecues in the sunshine.  A glass of wine and a good book.  Complete freedom and relaxation. Though the children no longer come with you, the Canvas Holidays don’t have to end.

A Canvas Holiday is the perfect choice for a couple. You pick the best travel options for you. You decide which day you want to leave and you can stay for any duration between 3 and 21 nights. What’s more, as you are able to travel outside the popular school holiday dates, you’ll benefit from low prices and quieter roads and resorts.

The weather on mainland Europe in May, June and September is usually fantastic. You’ll find long, sunny days, but it rarely gets too hot to wonder into town to do some sightseeing.

Multi-centre holidays – Europe at your feet

Canvas Holidays A multi-centre holiday is where you stay at more than one campsite. You can decide exactly where you want to stay and for how long – between three and 21 nights. You can also stay for different durations at each campsite, and try out different types of accommodation. It really is completely flexible.
There are endless possibilities – where you stay really depends on what you like to do on holiday. We’ve listed some example itineraries below, but please give our sales team a call – they are on hand to help you plan and book your perfect break.

Lakes and mountains

Starting at Lake Annecy, La Ferme de la Serraz, then Lake Garda, Camping Eden, then Interlaken, Camping Manor Farm and finally Lac de Chalain, Domaine de Chalain.

If stunning scenery and getting away from it all is top of your agenda, this could be the perfect combination. Start your trip with a couple of days relaxing at La Ferme de la Serraz near Lake Annecy. Soak up the mountain air and make the most of this wonderful area. From here, cross the border into Italy. Camping Eden on the banks of Lake Garda offers spectacular views over the shimmering lake – book an emplacement with a view to enjoy the best scenery.

Camping Manor Farm in Interlaken, Switzerland is your next stop. A lakeside campsite with a small private beach, this is a natural water sports centre where the hardy swim all year. Off site, take the railway up the Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe. Finally, head to Domaine de Chalain on the banks of Lac de Chalain in France’s Jura region. All manner of water sports are available here, along with some wonderful walking and cycling routes nearby.

French vineyards

Starting at Chambord, Château des Marais, then Groléjac, Camping les Granges and finally Gigny-sur-Saone, Château de l’Epervière.

French vineyards France is renowned for its fine wines, and this selection of sites allows you to explore some of the best wine producing regions at your leisure. The Loire Valley produces some excellent wines (plus wonderful goat’s cheese). Stay at Château des Marais, Chambord and you are within a short drive of the vineyards of Cheverny, Chinon, Vouvray and Sancerre. From the Loire Valley, head south to the Dordogne. Camping les Granges in Groléjac makes a fantastic base here. Close to the Dordogne River, explore the vineyards of Cahors, Bergerac, St Emilion and Monbazillac.

Of course no wine tour of France would be complete without a trip to Burgundy, and Château de l’Epervière at Gigny-sur-Saône makes a good base to explore the region. Take day trips to Maçon and Beaune and explore the local vineyards. Back on site, the campsite owners organise regular wine tasting evenings with local producers. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn more about Burgundy wines, and of course to taste and buy.

Best of the beaches

Starting at St Cast, Camping le Châtelet, then Benodet, Camping la Pointe de St Gilles, then St Jean-Plage, Camping la Yole and finally Ile de Ré, Camping Interlude.

Experience the best of France’s Atlantic coastline. Stunning views await at St Cast – try fresh seafood and explore this wonderful area on foot. From here, make the short drive down the coast to Bénodet. The campsite is set right on the beach, a short walk from the town centre. Spend a day exploring beautiful Quimper, and enjoy a pampering session at the onsite spa.

Enjoy a relaxing drive to the Vendée. You could spend the day in Nantes en-route – the city, set on the banks of the Loire is one of the largest in France and offers plenty to see and do. Spend a couple of days unwinding at Camping la Yole. Set amidst a forest and close to the beach, the private emplacements are perfect for soaking up the sun. Your final stop is Camping Interlude on Ile de Ré. Hire bikes and explore the network of cycle paths which criss-cross the island, or simply spend time unwinding on the beach.

Italian culture

Starting at Rome, Camping Fabulous, then Florence, Camping Norcenni Girasole Club and finally Venice, Residence Village.

Canvas Holidays Discover the best of Italy with this multi-centre holiday. Start your trip at Camping Fabulous, Rome. The Eternal City is easily accessed on public transport from the campsite – spend your days exploring the beautiful buildings and architecture. From Camping Fabulous, drive north to Camping Norcenni Girasole Club, close to Florence. Set high in the Arno Valley with a stunning backdrop of hills and vineyards, this is an excellent base for exploring the best of Tuscany, as well as the beautiful city of Florence.

Finally, head east to Venice. Residence Village is one of the smaller campsites along this stretch of coastline and makes an excellent base for exploring the area. A day trip to Venice (take the boat from Punta Sabbioni) is a must, but you can also spend time soaking up the sun at the side of the pool or on the beach.

Top tips

If you can, travel midweek as you’ll benefit from off-peak ferry crossings. It also pays to travel between campsites mid-week as the roads are usually a bit quieter. If you’re not in a rush, use the Route Nationale (marked in green on signposts) rather than the motorway to travel between campsites in France. These roads are toll free, and you’ll pass through many towns and villages, ideal for exploring en route.
