Ayii Anargyri Natural Healing Spa Resort in Miliou

Ayii Anargyri Natural Healing Spa Resort, Miliou, CyprusRoxanne at reception was a star, as was Denis the waiter and the girls in the Spa: this hotel has staff who are seriously proud of their establishment and happy working there.  Top quality Roxanne found me a kettle and mugs, I need tea at all times and lots of it, as well as a hairdresser for himself.  Don’t ask!  Suffice to say the kettle was used a lot and the hairdresser pronounced a triumph.  More on the spa later.

We arrived at Ayii Anargyri just as dusk was descending, having driven through the Troodos mountains from Larnaca. Ayii Anargyri Natural Healing Spa Resort. Miliou, Cyprus So a little weary, we headed to our room to freshen up for dinner in the wine cellar!  My kind of experience for sure.  We had a pleasant room, built with lots of wood, which I love, on the first floor, with a small balcony, overlooking the pool.  The bathroom was just as it should be, lots of towels, toiletries and spacious.

Ayii Anargyri Natural Healing Spa Resort, Miliou, CyprusThis hotel has been built besides and incorporates health-promoting sulphur springs, (not a whiff of anything to be smelt, I had been concerned) and in the past, was home to two saints who treated people in the springs without charge, thus Anargyri – literally ‘without silver’.  There is a tiny chapel in the hotel grounds to commemorate these two blessed brothers.  Now the springs form a very comprehensive spa, built in stone and wood, with a vast range of therapeutic treatments as well as cosmetic beauty treatments and it is much favoured by the people of Paphos at weekends.  We took to the sulphur pools, there are three, and had underwater currents massage our legs, powerful jets pound on our shoulders and finally, we relaxed with gentle bubbles as we reclined on underwater shelves.  It’s hard to describe, however it was 45 minutes of real bliss and restoration.  I recommend it!  And as a bonus, one of us (not me actually) very much enjoyed the two models being filmed frolicking in the water for a beauty pageant.

Ayii Anargyri Natural Healing Spa Resort, Miliou, CyprusThe wine cellar restaurant was in a vaulted room, lined, unsurprisingly, with racks of wine, yards of them in fact, and dinner is taken at tables made of rough-hewn ancient olive trees, akin to large railway sleepers.  It would be the perfect place for a private dinner party, especially if you were to be given free rein with a corkscrew.  Suffice to say, our bottle of local red was more than passably acceptable and we enjoyed several more during our stay.  The food at Ayii Anargyri is good, there’s a set menu, with two choices of main course; the starter and pudding arrived courtesy of Denis, our somewhat inscrutable waiter.  The breakfast buffet is served in the main dining room, where we encountered not only the models and their film crew but interestingly, several French couples, probably retired and some younger Cypriot folk.  Ayii Anargyri Natural Healing Spa Resort, Miliou, CyprusDuring the summer the doors are thrown open, leading to a suntrap beside the pretty pool area.  And it is an idyllic setting, with hills behind and in front, stretching away almost to the stars.  And these are something to behold here in the darkest of places, looking out from the balcony at night, the brightness and clarity of the heavens made me feel I could reach out and touch them.  This place is at one with its very rural surroundings and so exactly right in that.

We had needed to relax, to get away from busy lives for a bit and this was a great place to do that, massages, good food, very comfortable rooms and hardly any need to do anything.  We would happily return again.

Adults Only Holidays organised this child-free hotel and the related travel services.
