Our accommodation in the French Alps this year was the “Alps in Style” owned chalet “Esprit” in Morillon. The French Alps is such an incredibly beautiful area. I am sure in winter Morillon is picturesque like a Christmas card but I have only visited the region in summer. Although it is mainly know for winter sports in the winter months there is also so much to do in the summer. Walking, horse-riding, swimming in the lakes, taking the cable cars and chair lifts to the restaurants high up in the mountains for ice cream with a panoramic view. There is also river rafting and Morillon has, by the lake, a wonderful adventure park set in the trees where children and adults alike can use zip wires, climb ropes and cross rope bridges. There is even one zip wire that goes right across the lake.
Chalet Esprit is one of 3 alpine houses a short distance from the lake. Toni, the Manager, who we believe used to own the houses but now just manages them) lives in one of the houses so is near at hand in case of any problems. The accommodation was lovely, 2 large bedrooms with queen size beds and en suite bathrooms, a smaller bathroom downstairs and a smaller room with bunk beds. The kitchen was well stocked and the sitting area was very comfortable. The only thing missing was an outside sitting area. There was a lawn at the back of the property but this was used by Toni’s family and any other residents so it wasn’t very private. Having said that we weren’t in enough to miss this facility. As we had fabulous weather we were mainly down by the lake swimming (the water was freezing) or enjoying an ice cream as the sun went down. We also had a few days out. Chamonix is about an hours drive away and is a beautiful town in the shadow of Mt Blanc. It also has an adventure park where you can experience a “luge” ride which is quite exhilarating!
If you have never seen the French Alps in the summer, Morillon and the Chalet Esprit is well worth considering.
